Full Description
Archaeological evaluations carried out by AOC in 2007 over part of a cropmark site (NJ46SW0034). The Phase 1 area on the east side of Barhill Road revealed little. One large rectangular pit feature and one linear feature were recorded, both associated with post-medieval drainage activity. A large saddle quern was recovered from the topsoil. No other features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified during the evaluation. Subsequent evaluation of Phase 2, on the west side of Barhill Road comprised 28 trenches. Although aerial photographs suggested various archaeological remains within the development area no features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified, and so concluded that any features as revealed by aerial photography had been removed by plough activity.
