Full Description

Site of tumuli as depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. In circa 1873 a cairn known as 'Kings Grave' was opened and a stone cist found. East of this site, a tumulus was said to have been opened up in 1881 and to have contained a cist and bones. In the vicinity Dr Crammond is said to have found a flint arrowhead and flakes of red flint foreign to the district. This cist was the stone coffin published by the OS. The OS in 1962 noted that the name 'Kings Grave' was no longer known locally.
