Full Description

A long building, with an attached enclosure to the west, with a smaller building further west, is depicted on the OS map of 1867 as dis-used. By the 1888 edition it is no longer visible. It is unknown if anything survives. A modern forestry track cuts across the enclosure walls to the west of the building. FC field visit recorded the very slight remains enclosures by the side of the modern track (at NGR NJ4988 4151) one of which being that shown on the 1st edition OS map. The well might now be seen as a boggy depression on the east side of the modern track. This modern track appears to have superseded an earlier one which existed a little way to the east and seems to have cut the 19th century enclosure. Enclosures and buildings shown as old and uninhabited are depicted at this point on an 18th century estate plan (RHP 2282) and amongst the surviving remains are elements which appear to belong to this phase. The dwellings depicted on the earlier plan lay to the east of the modern track.
