Full Description
Numerous 'primitive abodes' of circular plan are described by the OS Name Book (1867). They are depicted on the OS 1st edition as 'Pit Dwellings (Remains of)' , their locations shown on the 2nd edition annotated as 'Pit Dwellings (Site of)'. They were described as being circa 1.5 m in diameter and 0.6 m in depth. OS (1968) found no trace on what has been apparently a very stony hill then partly afforested. RCAHMS visit 1997 noted nothing is now visible of these features but noted that the dimensions suggest they may be small quarries.
