Full Description

Site of the Battle of Culblean fought on 30th November 1335 between the forces of Sir Andrew de Moray, Warden of Scotland, and David de Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl, the former being victorious. This marked the turning point in the second Scottish War of Independence. A memorial marks the site at circa NJ 4344 0026, erected on 16th September 1956 by the Deeside Field Club. The supposed site is marked on the OS 1st edition map at circa NO 4263 9970 but on the 2nd edition it is marked at circa NJ 4313 0100.
