Full Description

In the gap between two ridges is a toll house built in 1822, probably by William Robertson. It is a northeast facing single storey 3-bay cottage, with a central doorway flanked by Doric columns and twin Tudor chimney ridge stacks with diamond flutes in the centre of the graded piended local slate roof. It is harled, with contrasting painted tooled and polished ashlar margins and dressings. There are flanking and gable windows, each with a later cast cable moulded ogee 'eyebrow', and hoodmould decoration painted in contrasting colours. 4-pane glazing is used in the front windows, and there is original 9-pane in gable fenestration. There is a later single storey wing at the rear. Remains of a wall uncovered whilst removing a tree stump are of a building depicted on historic OS maps.

Period Notes
It was built in 1822, and designated on 25/04/1989.
