Full Description
Approximate site of an aircraft crash. On 22 July 1944, during a fighter evasion training exercise, the starboard wing broke off Wellington HZ 262 and fell on to the golf course while the remainder of the aircraft crashed in the sea close to the shore. The crash was witnessed by several people who tried desperately to save the crew. WAAF Cpl. M. Lucas swam out as did a local civilian. They were unable to save the crew, and all six died as did the civilian. No exact location. MOD records that most of the plane was recovered, both from the sea and beach.
