A trial trenching evaluation and test pit monitoring was carried out by Robert Lenfert Archaeology in July-August 2020, ahead of proposed residential development. Four trial pits were monitored, followed by a 13 ha evaluation with a total of 51 trenches excavated, representing 7 percent of the evaluation area. Several possible late Medieval sherds of ceramic were recovered from the topsoil, along with occasional later Post-Medieval sherds, no intact archaeological finds or features were identified. The area surrounding the suspected cropmark (NJ26SW0124) was subjected to trenching at much closer intervals than normal, less than 10 m apart in some instances, no signs of archaeological features were revealed. This suggests that any existing cropmarks were most likely ploughed out given the thin (circa 0.2 to 0.3 m) nature of the topsoil, along with abundant plough scarring in the subsoil.
