Full Description
A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2018 ahead of proposed development and sports centre. Seven trenches were excavated. Five pits and remains of linear features likely to be related to field boundaries or the remains of rig and furrow were recorded. A subsequent watching brief in May 2018 during topsoil stripping around the areas of archaeological interest recorded a further three pits and rig and furrow. Analysis of environmental samples produced a macroplant and charcoal assemblage typical for a prehistoric site in the north of Scotland. Radiocarbon dates from four features indicate both Mesolithic and Early Medieval activity within the development area.
