Full Description
Site of Elgin gas works, depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. It first supplied gas in 1831 when there were two holders. A new gasometer was added in the early 20th century, first supplying has on 7 October 1908, an occasion marked by an inauguration ceremony. Area now used as car park. A watching brief was undertaken by AOC between November and December 2006 on ground breaking works conducted at Lossie Green Car park. These works revealed the location and partial preservation of the Elgin Gasworks, which was founded on the site in the 1860s.
