Full Description

Site of farmstead, depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. A photographic survey of the buildings was carried out in 2002 by CFA in advance of its demolition as part of a new housing development. This revealed that the steading had been built in the first half of the 19th century. The oldest and main part of the steading occupied a U-shaped plan incorporating a north, east and west range. An animal house was built parallel with the east range. Other, later 19th century additions included the construction of two large cattle courts and a cow byre. Other major alterations in the layout were also apparent in the farm layout at the time of recording. The west range in the main part of the steading underwent major conversion from a one-and-a-half storey stable complex with workshops and hay-loft to a corn drying shed. Large corrugated barns were added in more recent times, presumably for machine and bedding storage. At the time of recording, much of the farm was derelict with most of the buildings being used to stall cattle.
