Full Description
A watching brief was undertaken by Alba Archaeology in 2007 over the excavation of 13 trial pits as part of the Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme investigations. No finds or features of archaeological significance were observed. An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in advance of the proposed Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme in 2011. A single evaluation trench was positioned in order to investigate these possible features, and two further trenches were opened to the immediate west. No evidence was found for the potential ring ditch identified by study of aerial photography. A single irregular pit, containing a small quantity of animal bone, was recorded. Clear evidence for repeated flooding of this area was visible in the subsoil, which comprised banded waterborne silts and sand.
