Full Description

Excavations were carried out in this area between March and April 1981 in advance of development. No trace of any surviving street frontage deposits were recovered. Evidence of substantial backland activity was located 40m back from the High Street, but deposits close to the street frontage had been scarped away by later building work. Several pits and a beam slot were excavated. These features produced pottery of a 14th Century date. A fragment of Scarborough ware aquamanile in the form of a horse's head was recovered from an unstratified layer.
