Full Description

Site of a leper house. There is a reference in 1391 to land called 'Septelflat' beside the houses of the lepers of Elgin. An entry in the burgh court book of 1649 mentions the 'Lyper lands' beyond the east end of the burgh. Foundations dug up in 1850 consisted of rounded stones and boulders in blue clay, as well as a number of human skeletons. An assessment was carried out in 1993 by SUAT. Only one potential Medieval deposit was found: a cultivation slot dated by a single piece of pottery. Several burials found in 1982 may be associated with this site (NJ26SW0049).
