Full Description

Evidence of prehistoric and later activity was recorded by a programme of archaeological work carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2021 ahead of proposed housing development. A total of 32 trial trenches were excavated, revealing features indicating significant prehistoric activity, comprising pits containing prehistoric pottery in the eastern part of the development area, pits containing heat affected material in the central area and a possible large sub-circular enclosure in the west. Metal detecting survey recovered an intact Roman Iron Age button and loop fastener, bronze casting waste, a bronze ingot, a decorated silver ring of possible medieval date, and various coins dating from between the 16th and 18th centuries.
