Full Description

A large round cairn sits on top of Tappoch Hill. Two cists were found in it. One, in the centre, contained two skulls, bones and an urn. This substantial cairn is still a significant landscape feature with an Ordnance Survey trigonometrical survey point (OS trig point) on it. It is in the form of a pillar constructed for the mid-20th century retriangulation of Great Britain. An earlier trig point is depicted on the 1st edition OS map.
