Full Description
A trial trenching evaluation and metal detector survey were carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2021 on two parcels of land ahead of a proposed housing development. The evaluation comprised the excavation of 17 trenches, with the metal detector survey covering the extents of the west field within the development area. Trenches 9 to 17 were set out to target possible archaeological features identified in the form of cropmarks (NJ16SW0050). The presence of large patches of natural clay subsoil in this area may account for some of the cropmarks visible. No archaeological features or significant finds were identified during the evaluation. No significant finds were identified during the metal detecting survey, with the majority of the metal objects found being remnants of modern farming practices.
