Full Description

Site of flint working surface. In 1936 and 1940, J. M. Davidson is reported to have found a Bronze Age flint working 'floor' or surface about 320 m (350 yards) south of the railway station where a section of beach for exposed for circa 91.4 m (100 yards) and 64 m (70 yards) inland from the High Water Mark. The beach is described as being circa 3 m (10 feet) high, extending from the shore to the railway embankment. The area of flint working was noted 22.8 m (25 yards) from the shore, extending 54.8 m (60 yards) making an area about 32 x 22.8 m (35 x 25 yards), greatly obscured by low sandhills. Flakes and scrapers, some with retouching were found. There was also a fragment, possibly the lower half, of a leaf shaped arrowhead and a fragment of a possible Bronze Age knife. A note in PSAS 1883 records that from this area 'A collection of eleven flint arrowheads, fifty-four scrapers and a hundred and forty flakes worked and unworked was purchased 1883-4 by NMAS.'. The site has not been securely located or its extent mapped.
