Full Description
The old station of Burghead was opened in 1862 by the Highland Railway and served as the terminus of the branch from Alves. It stood in the area called the Salmon Green. It was a fairly extensive station whose facilities included a 2-road engine shed, with several tracks running to the harbour. The station buildings were burnt down in 1871. It was finally closed in 1892 when the line was extended to Hopeman and the 'New' station was opened. The Burghead New station to Burghead Harbour was closed to passengers on 10th October 1892 and finally to freight on 7 October 1966.
