Full Description
A trial trenching evaluation by Wessex Archaeology in March 2018 ahead of taxi extension included three trenches at this location, in the vicinity of NJ16NE0030 (site of manor) and NJ16NE0070 (site of a hamlet). Three trenches were excavated, these showing evidence of the area having been scraped and planed during the development of the airfield in the 1930s. Prior to this a series of dumps of modern material had been made in Trenches 8 and 9. No settlement features were recorded. Two square cut postholes suggest a possible field boundary.
