Full Description

Site of two limekilns which are depicted on the OS 1st edition map to the north of Inverugie House. One was circular and the other was a rectangular kiln. Part of a small rectangular structure lies to the north and quarries around them. Other quarries lie to the west on Gallowhill. On the 2nd edition map the kilns are no longer evident and the quarries are depicted as disused. Part of the rectangular kiln survived until recently. A watching brief was carried out in part of the site October 2012 in advance of construction of a single house plot (NJ16NE0095), no significant archaeological features or artefacts were revealed within the house plot area or test pits around this.
