Full Description

The village of Dallas is located between the Wangie and the Hill of Melundie. The village was planned as a feu of the Altyre estate in 1799 and lies about one mile north of the earlier Dallas Village and Kirk. Completion of the village took a further ten years, by which time the village had developed into a single street of houses running northeast to southwest with a new church to the north. Many of the original houses were built end-on to the street, but subsequent rebuilds resulted in houses fronting onto the street in a traditional manner. Records indicate there were three inns or drinking places in the village, the main ones being the Altyre Arms and Baillies. There was also a village shop and later a post office. At the southwest of the village stood the village green.
