Geophysical (resistivity) survey was carried out between December 2024 and February 2025 as part of a wider programme of archaeological investigation into Kinloss Abbey (NJ06SE0002).

Geophysical (resistivity) survey was carried out between December 2024 and February 2025 as part of a wider programme of archaeological investigation into Kinloss Abbey (NJ06SE0002). The survey was aimed at establishing the extent of the monastic complex beyond the existing graveyard area. Two areas (TA1, TA2) centred NJ 06422 61591 and NJ 06451 61596, either side of the access road to the abbey and farm were located to search for buildings named as Alex Gordon's buildings on a 1746 estate survey, these buildings possibly the repurposed monastic gatehouse. At the time of initial survey the ground in these areas was saturated and the results inconclusive, and despite dryer ground during further survey of TA2 in February 2025 the results remained inconclusive. An area (TA6) north of the east end of the present graveyard was sited to locate a building shown at the southeast corner of Dean Archibalds Yeard on the 1746 plan. High resistance areas were noted here but given the orientation and scale they could be un-associated and pre-date the monastic complex. TA10 to the west also noted areas of high resistance. An area (TA9) south of the graveyard was located following information from the farmer who reported large ‘worked stones’ found during ploughing the area adjacent to the Abbot’s House. The survey recorded a high resistance area in the area of the finds.
