Full Description
A watching brief was carried out in this and two other areas alongside the Burn of Mosset in 2005 by S. Farrell during investigative works for the Moray Flood Alleviation Scheme (MFAS). In the area around Mosset Tavern, a 19th century lade and 19th century pottery fragments were recorded as well as a possible 18th century cobbled surface. In the Strathcona Road area, another 19th century lade and more 19th century pottery were recorded in addition to a concrete floor dating to the 1920s/30s belonging to a farm which once stood at the site, and large pieces of worked sandstone, again probably from the farm. No further features of archaeological significance were noted. Another archaeological evaluation was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2006 on the area between Mosset Burn and Old Mint Road. Six trenches were excavated, revealing cobbles and building debris representing the remains of buildings noted on 19th and 20th century maps. A watching brief was carried out by Alba Archaeology in 2007 on ground investigation trial pits.
