Site of cropmark. The thin trace of an oval enclosure covering substantial area was visible as a crop mark in a field of cereal crop. There were possible internal features. To the east in the same field were possible ring ditches and a souterrain. There were also a number of marks which were probably geomorphological. An evaluation and excavation of this site and its wider surroundings was carried out by AOC in 2010 (NJ05NW0166 ). The evaluation identified features across the entire site. This comprised linear ditches, pits and post-holes. Artefacts recovered included Grooved Ware pottery, coarse stone, flint and later prehistoric ceramics. A secondary phase of archaeological works was required based on the results of the evaluation. This excavation comprised the complete excavation of a series of features identified underlying the area of a proposed roundabout and access road. The excavation identified the remains of two palisaded enclosures, ring-ditch and ring-groove roundhouses and a series of adjacent pits. (See NJ05NW0166 for site report and full details of work).
