Full Description
In March 2007, an archaeological watching brief was carried out on this site by CFA over the excavation of sixty-five test pits. Aerial photographs indicated at least two sites of archaeological potential within this area, including ring ditches and an enclosure. Two test pits excavated in one of these cropmark sites (NJ05NE0016) encountered extensive burning remains with charcoal rich sand. Another test pit (NJ05NE0056) revealed a shallow linear feature. The three pits that encountered archaeological remains were immediately backfilled to preserve the remains in situ and the test pits were relocated to a new location. None of the other test pits revealed archaeological remains.
