Full Description
Lithic scatter recorded during fieldwalking in 2020 as part of the Mesolithic Deeside Project. A total of 55 worked lithics were recovered, dispersed across the whole field. Predominantly of flint, they include 24 flakes, 9 blades, a core, a knife, a leaf point and a scraper. Two crested blades and a blade from an opposed platform core indicate a blade technology dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic or Early Mesolithic. Flake cores of rhyolite and quartzite show that materials other than flint were used in the Neolithic. A knife form made on a blade and a leaf point suggest use of the area in the Earlier Neolithic, whilst the scraper dates to the later Neolithic. Other finds included glazed ceramic, glass, larger pieces of Seaton type ceramic, glass and metal slag, one piece of late medieval pottery, and an unidentified coin.
