Full Description
Lithic scatter recorded during fieldwalking in March 2020 as part of the Mesolithic Deeside Project. A total of 118 pieces were recovered, predominantly of flint, and including 41 flakes, 13 blades, two leaf-shaped arrowheads, two knives, five cores, eight scrapers and a burin. A few pieces of quartz were also recorded. Two crested blades suggest a blade production technique dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic or Early Mesolithic. The two leaf points demonstrate hunting along the riverbanks in the Early Neolithic. The flake cores and broad flakes used to make knives and scrapers indicate tool making in the later Neolithic. Lithics analysis considered this as one assemblage with lithic scatters to the southeast NO79NW0129, NO79NW0130, all of Mesolithic to Neolithic date.
