Full Description
Circular, beehive shaped dovecot which stands on a mound 1 m high, built in the 16th century. The dovecot is 19.22 m in diameter, and stands on a mound. It has thick barrel shaped, walls with a low entrance in the east. There are three rat ledges with a single bird entrance above the first on the south side and a large circular hole in apex. The lowest rat ledge is concave on the underside. There is a small flight hole to the south above the first rat course, which is now blocked. It is rubble built with ashlar dressings and traces of harling surviving. Internally, there are about 700 stone nesting boxes in decreasing rows, a paved floor and marks in the centre of a former plinth to carry potence. The interior, including the nesting boxes, was repaired in 1979 and it is now sealed.
