Full Description
Lithic scatter recorded during fieldwalking in March 2020 as part of the Mesolithic Deeside Project. A total of 198 flint lithics were recovered, including 67 flakes, 50 blades, bladelets, a leaf point, a microlith fragment, a possible scraper and 14 cores. The assemblage is of mixed date but with an emphasis on blade production dating to the Mesolithic. The cores are predominantly single platform. One piece of flint appears different to that normally found here and may have been brought from further afield. The finds were concentrated in the southern part of the field. The scatter is an extension of the Late Mesolithic activity concentrated immediately to the east (NO79NE0126). Other finds from the fieldwalking included 19th-20th century midden material, a lot of broken slate, two pieces of medieval pottery and a wig curler.
