Full Description
Lithic scatter recorded during fieldwalking in February 2020 as part of the Mesolithic Deeside Project. A total of 66 pieces were recovered, 61 of flint, and including 21 flakes, 9 blades, a knife, a scraper, and five cores. Five quartz flakes and an elongated flake of quartz crystal were also recorded. The scatter represents occupation from the Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age. Only one of the cores is diagnostic of period, this a single platform blade core dating to the Late Mesolithic. Tow flakes show evidence for Late Neolithic core technology, one detached from a Levallois-like core. Two crested blades have evidence for use, one possibly as a scraper. A fine knife/scraper made from a broad large flake dates to the late Neolithic. A thumbnail scraper may be of Early Bronze Age date.
