Full Description

Commemorative paving stone incorporated into the path to the village hall in February 2015, commemorating Victoria Cross recipient William Anderson. It reads 'Corporal William Anderson, Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, 12 March 1915. William Anderson was born in Dallas, but grew up in Forres, and enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in September 1905. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for 'most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty' at Neuve Chapelle on 12 March 1915'. He did not return from the fighting that day and he has no known grave. He is listed on the Forres War Memorial (NJ05NW0162) and a plaque with his name was added to the Dallas War Memorial (NJ15SW0024) in 2015.
