Full Description

Two Middle Bronze Age bronze flanged axes, both found before 1963. The possible findspot, Rossie Island Road, extends from NO 7073 5665 to 7093 5710. The first, a flanged axe (Coles' class III Balcarry type, with angled flange, reclassified by Burgess and Schmidt as Findowrie type) is rough, corroded, green, has a ledgestop. It is 13.3 cm long, 3 cm wide at the butt, 5 cm wide at the cutting edge, stop-height 0.5 cm, and weighs 410gms. It is now in Montrose Museum. The second axe is Coles' Class II with convex flange and was in Brechin Museum.
