Full Description

A Late Bronze Age bronze leaf-shaped sword 'from Montrose' which is in Peebles Museum. It was purchased from Mr Miller, watchmaker, who mentioned it having been found in some old ruins near the harbour. Coles classified it as of Three-Slot type, Burgess and Colquhon reclassified it as of Wilburton type - variant G. Its dimensions are: 61.9 cm long, 3.85 cm wide at the terminal, 5.6 cm wide at the shoulder with a maximum blade width of 4.3 cm. It has a slight dark brown/green patina. There is a handle demarcation on the upper part of the blade. The pattern of the rivets is Sl:2 Sl. This may have suffered damage as it is described as having a long slot in the handle plate and two more in the wings in the description of 1888.
