Full Description
Lithic scatter recording by fieldwalking carried out in 2020 as part of the Mesolithic Deeside project. A total of 63 worked flints were recovered, mainly from the southeastern and northwestern part of the field. They include seven cores, 18 flakes, 9 small flakes, 16 blades, and a knife. There were few other finds, but these included a quartzite flake, clay pipe stems and some ceramics. There is a mix of flake and blade production techniques with a crested blade fragment and a blade from an opposed platform core indicating occupation dating to the Early Mesolithic or Late Upper Palaeolithic. An obliquely blunted blade points to Mesolithic activity whilst a knife form made on a broad flake is Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age in date.
