Full Description

An Early Bronze Age decorated bronze flat axe, with very slight flanges from 'Stracathro'. It was shown at the 'Palace of History' exhibition in Glasgow in 1911. It is classified as Coles' type Bc, reclassified by Schmidt and Burgess as a Flat axe of Bandon type. It is somewhat corroded, of brown patina with very faint decoration. The axe is listed as being in Montrose Museum by Coles (1971) and Schmidt and Burgess (1981), but in a letter from G. W. Zealand, Angus District Museums to OS, 20 November 1978 it is listed as being in Brechin Museum.
