Full Description

A Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe from 'Blackness'. Classified by Coles as of Bag type, reclassified by Schmidt and Burgess as of Dowris type. It is green, of rough cast, hammered on both faces and on the side opposite the loop near the mouth and it has prominent haft ribs up to the mouth. Its dimensions are: 9 cm long, 3.2 x 3.3 cm wide at the mouth, 7.2 cm wide at the cutting edge and it weighs 355 g.
