Full Description

A fitting from a medieval hunting leash, a dress pin and copper alloy object, all found during metal detecting. The leash fitting comprises a swivelling loop, measuring 22 mm by 23 mm, which would have been attached via a strap to either the huntsman or dog. When complete it would have comprised two loops attached to a central body. The style dates it to the 12th century. The dress pin, of copper alloy, is 65 mm long with a flat diamond shaped head, and possibly dates from the 12th -14th centuries. The cast copper alloy object, now broken, measures 19 mm by 28 mm and appears to be partially melted. Claimed as Treasure Trove (TT.181.16) allocated to ANGUSalive Museums, Meffan Museum Collection.
