Full Description
Remains of longhouses and enclosures. Longhouse oriented north-south, with extension, 3.5 m long at north end. The main house has doors on the east and west sides. The extension has a door in the east. Rough coursed walls survive mainly to height of 1.5 m. Other longhouses in L-shape immediately to west. Small enclosure attached to them on west side. Two roofed buildings, one unroofed building and an enclosure are shown on the OS 1st edition map: the easternmost building is also shown as unroofed on the 2nd edition map. The eastern building is within the area of a walkover survey carried out by Liz Jones in June - July 2024 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NJ15SE0079). It measured 12 m by 6 m with a 3.5 m long extension at the north end. The walls are drystone, 0.6 m thick, and the interior is overgrown with long grass with small spruce on the walls.
