Full Description
Cinerary urn discovered south of a standing stone (NJ94NW0004). The OS 1st and 2nd edition shows the site of a stone cist at this location. The urn had no decoration and was half filled with small fragments of burnt bones and covered by a small flat stone. It fell to pieces when exposed to the air. Five or six small urns, some with bones, were found close to the standing stone in 1846 and all were replaced. An urn, covered by a small slab resting upon another, was found 130 yards north of the standing stone in 1898. Its estimated dimensions are 33cm height, 22.9cm in diameter, and 15.2cm at the base. It was half filled with bones and crumbled on removal.
