Full Description

Findspot of a sandstone block. In 1974, on the grass verge of the east side of the A928 trunk road, immediately south of the roadbridge over the Glen Ogilvie Burn, a squared sandstone block was found. It measured 300 mm high x 185 mm wide x 500 mm deep, with a roll moulding 150 mm diameter and splayed reveals along short arris. The probable source for this stone is the former 14th century Claverhouse Castle (see NO34SE0003) which lay 300 m to the north-northwest and was demolished in 1826.
