Full Description

Coin hoard found in 1942 by a party of the Home Guard near the summit of Brimmond Hill in 1942. the hoard was lying loose under one of the boulders used as a shooting practice target. The coins are mostly Scottish copper Turners (two penny pieces) of Charles I, the latest dated 1632. The hoard was also reported as including a silver Queen Mary groat, which is presumed to refer Mary Tudor as no silver groats were issued during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. The present whereabouts of the hoard is not known.
