Full Description
Coin hoard in a pottery vessel discovered in 1937 during the development of a large housing scheme. The 197 coins were all English and Scottish groats. The date of deposition appears to be 1467 or soon after because the latest coin in the collection was of July 1465-July 1466, during the reign of Edward the IV of England. It has been suggested that the coins were concealed within the property of an individual because a cobbled paving overlay the jug and traces of a hearth were found nearby.
