Full Description

An inverted cinerary urn was found by a farm worker, while ploughing a field at Lowhillside Farm near Bourtie in circa 1970. The base was broken by the plough. The urn contained comminuted and decayed human bone. Greatest external diameter of the urn at the mouth is 275mm, base diameter circa 135 mm, and height circa 340 mm. It was decorated by three grooves of impressed cord on the exterior with chevron pattern between the grooves. A second urn was found circa 25 cm from the first, although in much poorer condition. The sides disintegrated and only the base survives. It contained some comminuted human bones. External diameter of base was 135 mm. Remains of a third urn was found circa 30 cm to the east of the other two.
