Full Description

Sword found in 1771. The point was made into a knife and it was used as a sack trimmer by the miller at Millfield. The Old Statistical Account, quoted by OS Name Book, records the discovery of spearheads, apparently of bronze, at Findlay's Mire and suggests that they were 'used by Covenanters'. This probably represents a Bronze Age find.
