Full Description
Coin hoard comprising a 'pose' of silver coins of Elizabeth I and James IV (32 coins). Found in 1862 by John Milne. In August 1862 the Aberdeen Herald recorded the discovery of a silver coin hoard at Bankhead Farm, Newhills by owner John Milne. All but one of the silver coins were English. The other piece was of Philip IV of Spain. This shows that English and continental silver was being used in place of the local product.
