Full Description
Early Bronze Age hoard comprising seven bronze flat axes found in an urn during trenching in a field north of the farm in 1857, said to be half way between farm and main coast road. The axes were tightly packed into a pot which was protected by a stone on each side. In the same field a number of large stones, 2.43 - 2.74m long, were found lying in a circle and thought to be the remains of a stone circle. Of the seven axes two are represented only by fragments. DA25 is a half blade with fluting on both faces. DA23 the central portion and undecorated. Of the five whole examples three DA21,22 and 24 have punched rain decoration on part or all of both faces. Two DA19,DA20 have broad shallow fluting on both faces. Axes mainly of the Megaw and Hardy Type 1.
