Full Description

Early Iron Age bronze armlet of 2nd-3rd century BC date. Found while the farmer was ploughing field on which a stone circle had stood. The armlet weighs 3lbs 9oz, is 165mm in its longest diameter and 136mm in greatest breadth across its side. It is ornamented with three parallel, rounded or embossed mouldings or belts which are thickly studded with alternately transverse and oblique projecting ornaments. Stuart (1859) states that the armlet was precisely similar to one found at Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire and donated by him in 1853 to NMAS, but this has been taken by J M Coles as a reference to some Late Bronze Age torcs also found at Belhelvie, leading him to erroneously list 'a ribbon torc from Auchinbadie'.
