Full Description

The remains of a small farmstead stand on the east side of Slack of Myrack. It is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. There is a two-compartmented house, oriented northwest-southeast, lying on the east side of an irregular shaped enclosure. At its northern end lies another building oriented northeast-southwest, to the north side of which is attached a small irregular shaped enclosure. Two other single buildings lie to the north and east of it. Depicted on the current edition (2006) as ruins. The remains were recorded during field survey in 2018 ahead of a proposed wind farm. The main farmstead complex survives as the stone footings of a rectangular building and three enclosures. The faint outline of a sinuous turf and stone bank and the footings of an associated rectangular building were also recorded circa 18 m east of the main farmstead buildings. A length of curvilinear bank (or wall), likely associated with the farmstead, was visible circa 80 m to the southeast. The building at NJ1873348818) southeast of the main buildings is rectangular in plan, split into three compartments, and is defined by a denuded stone wall measuring 0.5 m high and 0.5 m thick. The turf and stone bank runs for circa 170 m between NJ1867848879 and NJ18764848819 for circa 170 m, the northern end possibly once forming the western side of a rectangular enclosure (25 m by 13 m) although there was no evidence for the eastern side still surviving. See also NJ14NE0028 which may be associated with the farmstead).
