Full Description

An Iron Age tankard handle found during metal detecting, of copper alloy and measuring 57.5mm in length and 16.5mm width. It is of leaf-shaped form, the downturned ends with lugs to fit into a wooden vessel. Two rows of rectangular enamelled 'cells' probably formed a bichrome chequerboard pattern, one of the colours being red. Damage to the rivet holes suggests that the tankard broke in use. Claimed as Treasure Trove (TT 32/18) and allocated to Elgin Museum.
